Princess Bari 2021

Princess Bari is a story from Korean mythology that tells the story of a daughter who was thrown away by her parents because she was not born a son. When the parents fall ill and their first 6 daughters will not help, Princess Bari is called back to go fetch the medicinal water that will heal her parents. Moving to the end of the story, when Princess Bari returns with the water she finds out her parents have died. At the funeral Princess Bari resurrects her parents with flowers and heals them with the medicinal water.

 

This project is my own interpretation of the feelings Princess Bari must have had when she had to embark on this journey for parents that did not want her.  Feeling used, sadness, anger and frustration, this body of work is meant to make the viewer feel uneasy when looking at the depictions of these emotions.
